The Ice Rink at The Cosmopolitan
In a popular holiday tradition, the 4,200-square-foot Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan gets a frigid makeover as one of the top ice-skating rinks in Las Vegas beginning November 20th and open through early January. The Ice Rink, as it’s called, is open for afternoon and evening skating on select dates during that period.
It’s an amazing frozen-over spread, what with the gleaming lights of the Vegas cityscape all around and the option of roasting a few s’mores around a fire pit, to boot. Not all that surprising USA Today named this setup one of the 10 Best Ice-Skating Rinks in North America!
While admission to the Ice Rink vicinity is free, you’ll pay $25 for all-day skating—a fee that includes skate rentals, though you can also bring your own skates (for the same admission rate). Skaters younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult, but there’s no age limit here.
Among the highlights of evening skate sessions at The Cosmopolitan’s Ice Rink are the artificial snowfalls that come down on the half-hour, just to ramp up the holiday charm and atmosphere.
Events at The Ice Rink at The Cosmopolitan
In addition to the general skating, The Ice Rink at The Cosmopolitan hosts a slew of holiday events during its seasonal run. Some of the most popular are the “Date Skates,” which combine skating with an outdoor movie. Among the offerings this year are Jack Frost (November 25th), Home Alone (November 26th), National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (December 3rd), Elf (December 23rd), and The Polar Express (December 30th), to name but a sample of the screenings.
On November 20th, The Ice Rink hosts The Cosmopolitan’s third annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony: an affair hosted by Big D and Mark Shunock, centered on a 36-foot-tall tree, and featuring Marc-André Fleury and Max Pacioretty of the Vegas Golden Knights.
Among the more unique shindigs taking place at The Ice Rink is “Benny the Ice-Skating Dog” on November 27th: a session with a Labrador rescued from euthanasia who’s mighty adept on the ice. Two dollars of every skate-rental fee that day go to The Animal Foundation.
